Pegging for Beginners: A Step-by-Step First Session

A realistic walkthrough of a first session, from the conversation to aftercare, with timings that are not optimistic.

A good first session is unhurried, well-lubricated, and lightly planned. Below is a structure that works for most couples. Adapt it; do not treat it as a checklist to complete.

Before the day

Have the conversation somewhere neutral and clothed. Agree on what you are curious about, what is off the table, and what word means stop. Buy your gear well in advance so nothing arrives mid-anticipation.

The receiving partner should trim and file their nails if fingers will be involved, and both partners should agree on how they want to handle hygiene. A normal shower is sufficient for most people. Douching is optional and, done aggressively or often, can irritate the rectal lining.

Warm up properly

This is the part people skip. Budget twenty to thirty minutes.

  • Start with external touch around the anus using a well-lubricated finger. No entry yet.
  • Progress to one finger, slowly, only when the muscle relaxes on its own.
  • Move to two fingers or a small plug. Pause whenever the receiver asks.
  • Add more lubricant than feels necessary. Then add more.

The anus has two sphincters. The outer one is under voluntary control; the inner one is not. Rushing means fighting a muscle that cannot be consciously relaxed — it responds to time, breathing, and safety, not willpower.

Position

For a first attempt, the receiver being on top or on their side gives them control of depth and pace. Missionary with a pillow under the hips is also workable and lets you see each other's faces, which matters more than it sounds.

Entry and movement

The receiving partner guides the tip into place and pushes back onto it rather than the wearer pushing forward. Stop at the tip. Wait. Breathe out on entry rather than holding breath.

Once fully seated, stay still for thirty seconds or so. Then begin with short, shallow strokes. Depth and speed are the last things to increase, not the first.

Aftercare

Clean toys immediately with warm water and a dedicated toy cleaner. Then sit together and talk about it — what felt good, what felt strange, what you would change. Doing this within an hour, while the memory is accurate, is far more useful than doing it a week later.

If it did not work

A first attempt that ends in laughter, cramping, or a firm "not today" is a normal outcome, not a failure. The most common fixes are: more lubricant, more warm-up time, a smaller toy, and a different position. Try one change at a time so you know what helped.
